What is softPOS and what are its benefits?

Cashfree Payments softPOS is an Android-based Point of Sale (POS) solution that enables businesses to accept digital and in-person payments seamlessly. It supports 100+ payment options, including QR codes, Cards, Payment Links, Net Banking, Wallets, and Buy Now Pay Later.

Key Benefits:

1. Turn any Android device into a POS – Just download the app and start accepting payments.

2. Accept multiple payment modes – Manage all transactions in one place for easy reconciliation.

3. Boost sales – Offer flexible payment options like Buy Now, Pay Later to attract more customers.

4. Enable agent-based collections – Assign agents to collect payments, with all transactions reflected in the Merchant Dashboard. Prerequisites: Works on Android 6.0+ and a Cashfree Payment Gateway account.

How does softPOS work?

Use the Cashfree SoftPOS app to accept payments digitally or in person, directly from your phone. Customers can pay via QR code, Payment Links, Cards, Net Banking, Wallets, and more.

To use SoftPOS, sign up as a Cashfree Payments merchant and activate your Payment Gateway account. Then, request SoftPOS activation from your dashboard. Once approved, add agents, install the app, and start collecting and tracking payments easily. Click here to know more.

Is softPOS application available in the iOS App Store?

No, the Cashfree Payments softPOS application is not available on the iOS App Store. It is currently available only on the Google Play Store.

Are there any transaction limits in softPOS?

There are no daily transaction limits, but there are limits on the amount processed per transaction through different payment modes. These limits can be customized based on your requirements.

How many agents can a single merchant add?

There is no limit. Businesses can add an unlimited number of agents.

Are there any extra charges to use the application?

No, the application is absolutely free. Cashfree Payments charges only for transactions made using the softPOS application, as applicable. There is no maintenance or registration fee for using the application.

How many agents can a single merchant add?

Is softPOS application available in the iOS App Store?

No, the Cashfree Payments softPOS application isn’t available on the iOS App Store. It’s currently available only on the Google Play Store.

Are there any transaction limits?

There are no daily transaction limits. However, there are per-transaction limits, which can be customised based on your business needs.

Are there any extra charges to use the application?

No, the application is free to use. Cashfree Payments charges only for transactions processed through the softPOS application. There are no maintenance or registration fees.

Can I customize digital receipts on SoftPOS?

Currently, digital receipt customization isn’t available on Cashfree’s SoftPOS solution.

Does SoftPOS support barcode scanning?

No. Barcode scanning is currently not supported in the Cashfree SoftPOS solution.

Can I integrate loyalty programs with SoftPOS?

Cashfree doesn’t offer built-in loyalty program integrations with SoftPOS. You can explore custom development externally to integrate loyalty features.

Can I link SoftPOS with P2P POS devices?

Peer-to-peer POS linking for persistent customers isn’t directly supported. However, we’re open to reviewing your use case and may suggest workarounds.

Can I print receipts using SoftPOS?

SoftPOS doesn’t support built-in invoice printing. Merchants can integrate third-party software or hardware to print receipts.

Transactions

How do I initiate a transaction?

To initiate a transaction:

1. Go to the New Payments tab.
2. Enter the amount you want to receive.
3. Choose the payment mode you wish to proceed with.
4. Fill in the required details and click on Accept.

The user will then be shown a QR code that can be scanned using a PSP app to complete the payment.

How can I check if a transaction is successful?

You can check the status of each transaction in the Payments tab.

• Transactions in an incomplete state may move to success once confirmation is received from the customer’s bank.

• If the status doesn’t update and money is deducted, the amount will be returned within 3-4 working days.

How can I see a transaction in a particular date range?

Payment Gateway Dashboard > Transactions > Payments > Drop down menu on the filter for dates > Custom date range

How can I search for a transaction based on status?

Payment Gateway Dashboard > Transactions > Payments > Search and filter > Status

What could be the reason for payment being declined?

There can be multiple reasons for a payment being declined, including failures from the bank’s end.

If money is deducted from the customer’s account but the status shows as a failure, the amount will be reversed back to the customer’s account within 7 to 10 working days.

How long should I wait if a transaction is pending?

If a transaction is pending:

1. Go to the Payments tab and pull down to refresh the status of the transaction.

2. If the transaction status shows as failed, the money will be reversed to the customer’s account within 7 to 10 working days.

Dynamic QR

How is this payment option different from the static QR code?

The difference between dynamic and static QR codes is:

• Dynamic QR Code:

  • The agent must enter the amount the customer needs to pay.
  • The agent can also customize the order by entering details such as the customer’s phone number, invoice number, and order note.

• Static QR Code:

  • The customer scans the QR code using their PSP app, enters the amount, and completes the payment.

What are the transaction limits on this payment mode?

The upper limit per transaction is ₹1 lakh.

This limit can be modified in the dashboard under Payment Methods.

What happens if the timer runs out before my customer could make a transaction?

If the timer runs out before the customer completes the transaction:

• If the customer has not scanned the QR code, you will need to regenerate the order by re-entering all details in the New Payments tab.

• If the customer has scanned the QR code, they can continue the transaction. You can check the transaction status in the Payments tab by performing a pull-down refresh.

Payment link

How to share a Payment Link?

The Payment Link is shared via SMS to the phone number entered by the agent.

What payment options do my customers get?

Your customers will have access to 120+ payment options, including cards, net banking, wallets, pay later, and more.

Cash

What does the option of Cash do?

The Cash option allows the agent to make a ledger entry for any cash collection done upon rendering a service. There is no processing involved from Cashfree Payments. These transactions will show up in the Payments tab and in the reports, which can be used by merchants for reconciliation.

Will I be able to see the transactions marked as cash in the transactions report?

Yes, you will be able to see the details of all transactions, including those marked as cash, in the transaction report.

Reports

Where can I see the reports for the transaction?

You can download the SoftPOS transaction report from the Reports section of your Merchant Dashboard. To do so, click on Reports, navigate to Download Report, and generate a new report. Select the desired file type, choose SoftPOS Transactions as the report type, and specify the date range for the transactions.

What are the details covered in the transaction report?

The transaction report covers all the details of a transaction, including agent-level details such as:

• Agent’s name
• Terminal ID
• Payment method
